In fact\, the Central Florida institution has been forced to remain closed\, even as it misses out\non vital revenue and staff is still needed to maintain a high standard of care for the animal residents.\nNow\, help is coming from an unlikely source—another\nbusiness hit hard by flooding. Wekiva Island is hosting a give\nback night to benefit the Zoo\, despite weathering a two-week\nclosure itself.\nCarrie Vanderhoef\, Wekiva Island manager\, also serves on the\nboard of directors for the Central Florida Zoo.\n“At Wekiva Island\, we love supporting our Seminole County\nneighbors\,” she said. “This is a win-win. We can welcome back\nall the faces we missed during our closure\, and we can give\nback to the Zoo. We unfortunately understand how hard a\nclosure like this hits\, and we’re thrilled to contribute.”\nWekiva Island will donate 10 percent of sales to the Zoo from 4 to 11 p.m. Friday\, October 28. There will\nalso be a raffle\, silent auction and other fun happenings during the event\, and 100 percent of those\nproceeds will be donated.
