SUMMARY:Lets Talk Turkey
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that Turkeys are powerful fliers\, especially for short distances. Speeds of up to 55 mph have been observed. To conserve energy\, turkeys primarily walk. They spend most of their time on the ground\, where they search for acorns\, seeds\, fruits\, insects\, leaves\, and small vertebrates. They can easily cover several hundred acres in a day. \nWild turkeys are social animals and typically flock together in groups numbering just a few birds to as many as 20 or more.  They are extremely wary and will run away or fly to a tree to escape danger. For safety from ground predators\, turkeys roost at night in trees within thicker forest stands. \nCourtship occurs during spring. The male\, also known as a gobbler or tom\, will strut\, fan out its tail and gobble to attract hens. During these displays\, the skin on the male turkey’s head turns bright blue and white\, and the caruncles become swollen and turn bright red. \nWild turkey hens in Florida typically begin nesting in late March or early April. The female builds a shallow nest on the ground where she lays an average of 9 to11 eggs. It takes approximately 12-13 days to lay the full clutch of eggs and another 25-26 days of continuous incubation for them to hatch. Newly hatched turkeys\, called poults\, are highly mobile and can feed themselves soon after hatching. For roughly two weeks after hatching\, broods will roost on the ground until the poults develop enough to be able to fly into low branches or small trees.

SUMMARY:You Otter Know
DESCRIPTION:Otter Parenting \n\n\nMales do not help raise young otters. Females retreat to their underground dens to deliver litters of one to six young. When the young are only about two months old\, they get an advanced swimming lesson—their mother pushes them into the water. Otters are natural swimmers and\, with parental supervision\, they soon get the hang of it.

SUMMARY:Carbon Neutral Water?
DESCRIPTION:We are proud to offer Icelandic Glacial Water!\n\n\nSUSTAINABILITY\n\n\nThe World’s First Bottled Water Certified as CarbonNeutral® for Product and Operation\n\n\n\n\nCarbonNeutral® Certification\nIcelandic Glacial™ has worked with The CarbonNeutral® Company\, a leading carbon emissions consultant\, since 2007. Since that time\, Icelandic Glacial has been certified CarbonNeutral® for both its product and operations – an unprecedented move in the beverage industry. \nIcelandic Glacial has made a commitment to assess our CO2 emissions and reduce them wherever possible on an ongoing basis. Only after this process has been carried out\, and a net-zero carbon footprint achieved\, can a company carry the CarbonNeutral® Company certification. Our efforts have been rewarded with international recognition\, most notably winning the 2007 Bottled Water World Design Awards for Best Sustainability Initiative\, presented at the Global Bottled Water Congress. \nFor more on the CarbonNeutral® Company:\nwww.carbonneutral.com \n  \nGreen Energy Sources \nThe water collected by Icelandic Glacial flows directly into our state-of-the-art bottling plant located right at the source\, in Hlidarendi\, Iceland at the edge of the Ölfus Spring.  We take great pride in running a completely sustainable operation\, fueled entirely by geothermal and hydroelectric power. \nEfficient ShippingIcelandic Glacial ships product by utilizing otherwise empty cargo space on vessels already returning to the United States and Europe. This helps Icelandic Glacial reach consumers while leaving the smallest carbon footprint possible. \nRenewable\nUnder the direction of The CarbonNeutral® Company\, Icelandic Glacial purchases through investment in bonafide renewable energy products throughout the world.  These renewable energy projects balance out any remaining net carbon emissions. \nCertifiably Sustainable Spring\nThe Ölfus Spring is naturally replenished from mountains in the north of Iceland. Using less than .1% of the overflow to the sea of the Ölfus Spring in its bottling operation\, Icleandic Glacial is a careful steward of this precious resource. SUMMARY:What are those statues?
DESCRIPTION:We are often asked what the statues along the river mean! \n\nMuch like the Phoenix bird which rose from its own ashes\, the Sprites of Midway Gardens were resurrected from their demise and given to the Arizona Biltmore\, A Waldorf Astoria Resort as gifts. Now called the Biltmore Sprites\, the Sprites of Midway Gardens were in a sense the lost children of architect Frank Lloyd Wright and sculptor Alfonso Iannelli. These geometric architectural statues were conceived in 1914 for the specific purpose of adorning and watching over Midway Gardens\, once a center for premier entertainment\, fine food and music on Chicago’s lakefront. \n\n\nMost of the Sprites met a premature and unfortunate demise during Prohibition. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Gardens\, designed by Mr. Wright\, experienced a successful first season in 1914\, but that same winter began to feel the chill of World War I in Europe. Midway Gardens was sold to the Edelweiss Brewing Company and turned into an overgrown beer garden — while the Sprites stood by and watched. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMr. Wright’s well-planned architectural designs and decorations were altered and defaced in an effort by the brewing company to attract an audience. This effort proved unsuccessful. The final blow came in 1920 when Prohibition was declared. Since the open-air patios and the enclosed Winter Gardens were far too visible to be converted to a speakeasy\, ownership of the Midway Gardens continued to change hands several times\, serving once as a garage and a car wash. The building was finally closed and demolished in October 1929. \n\n\n\n\n\nMidway Gardens was bulldozed into Lake Michigan. It should be noted\, however\, that the building didn’t go down without a fight. Two wrecking companies went out of business trying to demolish the concrete structure. The company that finally took it down still lost a considerable amount of money on the job. The Chicago Daily News of October 10\, 1929 reported the destruction of the Gardens as the end of an era\, but commented that the golden days were so remote they were truly beyond recapture. \n\n\n\n\n\nIt seemed the Sprites were lost forever. Then sometime after World War II\, word reached Taliesin\, the original estate and Frank Lloyd Wright School in Spring Green\, Wisconsin\, that a few of the Sprites had been saved and were lying in pieces in a farmer’s field in Lake Delton\, Wisconsin. \n\n\n\n\n\nApparently\, a member of the Midway Gardens wrecking crew either rescued the Sprites from the lake or snatched them before they were destroyed. For years they had lain in his farm field. Taliesin recovered the three damaged Sprites and shipped them to the Stillwater\, Minnesota home of Don Lovness\, a client and friend of the Wright’s. Lovness and his wife restored two 5 to 6-foot Sprites and a 12-foot Sprite. For over 20 years\, these figures guarded their Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home. \n\n\n\n\n\nIn 1980\, Mrs. Wright built a garden at Taliesin West and had the Sprites shipped to Phoenix for placement. After restoration and recasting work was done\, eight Sprites\, each standing 6 feet tall and weighing 450 pounds\, were donated to the Arizona Biltmore in October 1985. Today\, the lost children have found a welcome home in the familiar surroundings of a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired premier establishment\, The Arizona Biltmore Resort. \n\nBill &  Mary Weinaug purchased these replicas of the Original Sprites at the Arizona Biltmore.
