SUMMARY:Eco Talks: Soil to Springs: Protecting Florida’s Water and Land
DESCRIPTION:Hear from local leaders and environmental experts during an Earth Day panel discussion exploring how land and water choices shape the future of Florida’s natural resources. \n\n🎟️ Ticket Details: Free\, please RSVP in advance\n\n\nEvent Description \nJoin us this Earth Day for an engaging Eco Talks panel discussion exploring the connection between land\, water\, and the health of Florida’s natural ecosystems. From Soil to Springs: Protecting Florida’s Water and Land brings together local voices to discuss how everyday choices impact the state’s most vital resources. \nThis community conversation will examine the relationship between sustainable agriculture\, land use\, and water conservation\, and how these practices work together to protect places like the Wekiva River and its surrounding springshed for future generations. \nThrough real stories\, expert insight\, and local perspective\, the panel will highlight what shapes Florida’s springs—and what actions can help preserve them. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how land stewardship directly impacts water quality\, wildlife\, and the long-term health of our environment. \nMeet the Panelists \n \nDr Jay Exum | Vice President\, Friends of Wekiva River and Principal Ecologist & President\, Exum Associates\nJay Exum received his Ph.D. in wildlife ecology from Auburn University in 1985 and began his professional career in central Florida at that time. In 1992\, he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives\, and in 2000\, he was elected to the Florida Senate\, representing the citizens of Orange and Seminole Counties. He served until November 2010\, ending his Senate career due to term limits. \nSince 2012\, Lee has served as a Seminole County Commissioner\, being re-elected in 2016\, 2020\, and 2024. \nThe media has recognized Commissioner Constantine for his talent in brokering compromise\, his mastery of the complex state budget process\, and his leadership in education\, the environment\, and economic development. Throughout his legislative career\, he has passed numerous significant and groundbreaking bills. \n  \n \nRyan Smart | Executive Director\, Florida Springs Council \nRyan Smart holds a Master’s degree in Political Science\, focused on Water Policy & Public Administration from the University of Florida\, where he was honored for his environmental advocacy work as the 2017 University of Florida Bob Graham Center Young Floridian of the Year. SUMMARY:Artist Demonstration: Hazel Griffiths
DESCRIPTION:Artist Demonstration: Encaustic Painting with Hazel GriffithsSunday\, May 17 | 3–5 PM | at Gallery CERO | $10 \nCurious about encaustic painting? Join us for a live artist demonstration with Hazel Griffiths and experience this captivating medium in action. \nHazel will begin with a brief introduction to encaustic—its origins and history\, including the ancient Fayum portraits—before walking through the process step by step. Watch as she creates encaustic medium using beeswax\, damar resin\, and pigment\, explores the tools of the trade\, and brings a piece to life—either an abstract landscape or an underwater coral reef scene. \nIf you’ve heard of encaustic but never fully understood how it works\, this is a great opportunity to see the process up close and ask questions in a relaxed\, engaging setting. \nAbout the ArtistHazel Griffiths is a multidisciplinary artist originally from England\, working across both digital and physical media. Her practice often blends the two—creating textures and effects by hand before translating them into digital environments. \nNow focused primarily on encaustic painting\, Hazel uses wax and mixed media to create expressive\, layered landscapes—both real and imagined. With a foundation in classical oil painting\, her work explores immersive\, atmospheric environments with a subtle sense of magic\, extending into narrative-driven virtual reality experiences that blur the line between painting and world-building. \nLearn more & follow Hazel’s work:Instagram: @hazelgriffithsartWebsite: hazelgriffiths.com
