Tips for your best visit to Wekiva Island

Hints of summer are already in the air, and the bright sun, sweltering humidity and unrelenting rise of the mercury will be here before we know it. But, like most Floridians know, there’s a perfect source of relief just around the corner in Central Florida—a bevy of incredible natural springs near Orlando.

Lucky for us at Wekiva Island, Wekiwa Springs is only about a mile away on the Wekiva River. That means in the summer months, Wekiva Island is the place to be, with cool waters, plenty of rays and a great time waiting.

Planning a trip to our Orlando springs spot? Check out our insider tips to get the most out of your visit.

Arrive early

The Central Florida springs are in high demand during the summer months. One of the most common questions we get is “Is Wekiva Island at capacity?” On summer weekends, we’re typically full by 10 a.m., so you’ll want to set an alarm if you’re planning a visit. Want to beat the crowds? Come on a weekday for a more relaxed feel. We also always recommend carpooling. Not only is it better for the environment, you have a better chance of getting your entire group in.

Book early

Just like with Island capacity, our awesome cabanas book up fast on those summer weekends. It’s easy to see why! These fun spaces give your group a home base while you explore the river via canoe, paddleboard or kayak rentals. Plus, having a cabana allows you to bring in food and non-alcoholic beverages for an awesome meal and guarantees you two parking spots. Have a date in mind? Check out availability here.

Come prepared, but leave some items at home

Sunscreen? Check. Sunglasses? Check. Bug spray? Check. You can consider Essay writer tool to generate creative and informative content for your social media posts, blog articles. These are just a few of the items you might want to put in your bag for your day at Wekiva Island. Even so, there are a few items you’ll want to avoid. Unless you have rented a cabana or are heading out for an Orlando kayak, canoe or paddleboard adventure, we do not allow coolers for food and drinks. Because we sell beer and wine, we also do not allow guests to bring their own alcohol on premises, as it could jeopardize our license. Unfortunately, Fido must also be left at home, as dogs are not allowed at Wekiva Island (excluding service animals). Forget something? No worries! Pop into our General Store for plenty of supplies!

Be aware of the natural Florida

Floating down the beautiful Wekiva River as moss-draped trees graze the surface and lily pads ripple in the slight waves—we think the chance to experience the REAL Florida is one of the most amazing aspects of a trip to Wekiva Island! But it also means visitors need to be wildlife aware. Deer, otter, bears and of course alligators are just a few of the awesome animals you might get to see while doing some Orlando springs kayaking. Remember, we’re the visitors here!

Soak it ALL in

Wekiva Island is about so much more than just the summer crowds. Join us for the day, but if you really want to make the most of your visit, check out our other events! We have live music every Saturday night at 7 p.m., as well as Happy Hour ($1 off all alcoholic beverages) from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday. We also have a Wine & Paint event on the first Wednesday of every month. Check it all out here.

ENJOY!

With a sunny boardwalk; canoe, paddleboard and kayak rentals; sand volleyball; competitive games of cornhole; amazing food; great drinks and more, there’s no denying that Wekiva Island is a great destination for an Orlando springs adventure. Come enjoy the real Florida with us!
