Way back in 2008, when Wekiva Island was founded, we made the choice to center our business around three pillars: Art, sustainability, and education. Those pillars are part of the reason one of our upcoming events has become so close to our heart. The Wekiva Paint Out combines all three of these pillars into one inspiring, creative week. This week is full of can’t-miss art events in Orlando, and we’re here to tell you more about what to expect.
What is the Wekiva Paint Out?

The Wekiva Paint Out is a week-long celebration of art and the environment. Artists from around the country come to stay at Wekiwa Springs State Park, painting “en plein air” at the park, Wekiva Island, and around the area for a week.
Their stunning works and the event help bring awareness to the treasure that is the Wekiva River and hopefully inspire people to act. The proceeds from the event also go to protect the river via Keep Seminole Beautiful and the Wekiva Wilderness Trust.
This year’s event runs from February 24 to March 1. Here are just a few of the things you can experience at the Wekiva Paint Out.
Watch masterpieces come to life
The Wekiva Paint Out offers Orlando art lovers a unique chance—to watch art come to life before their eyes. Artists will be painting throughout the area all week long. If you run into one of them at the State Park or at Wekiva Island, stop and watch a while. There’s nothing like seeing a work come together brushstroke by brushstroke. Many of the artists don’t mind chatting a bit with viewers, too. Plus, if you see something you like, you can purchase it straight from the easel!
Tour the gallery
As those pieces come off the easel, they’ll be hung up in the ever-growing gallery at Wekiva Island. Stop by throughout the week and watch as each artist’s wall grows and changes. All of the pieces are for sale, and proceeds benefit a good cause, so if you see something you like, be sure to act fast.
Experience the live art auction
If you’ve never experienced a live art auction before, now is your chance. This night is electric! Each artist submits one piece for the auction, and the bidding wars ensue with the help of our auctioneer. Who knows? You might even get a great deal on a one-of-a-kind piece of art. Whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned collector, you can’t miss our riverside auction. This year’s event is from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26. It’s free to attend, and you can register here.
Compete in the Quick Draw
If you have some art talent of your own, the Quick Draw competition is your chance to show it off. Amateur artists can bring their own supplies and create a masterpiece in just two hours. Afterward, our judges will crown a winner. Registration is $30, and the event runs from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1. Register here.
Celebrate at the Gala
When the week is done, raise a glass with us! The Wekiva Paint Out Gala is an all-inclusive night riverside. This year’s event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. March 1. Indulge in a delicious meal, sip wine and beer, enjoy live music, and more. Of course, you can stroll through the gallery to see everything created during the week and chat with the artists. Tickets are $50 per person or $90 per couple and available here.
The Wekiva Paint Out truly is full of some of our favorite art events in Orlando all year round. We hope you’ll come experience it with us! When you’re here, don’t forget to stop by our own Orlando art gallery, Gallery CERO. Keep in touch with them for all the latest art events we have at Wekiva Island.
