A favorite local gathering spot on the river, The Tooting Otter Craft Beer & Wine Bar is Wekiva Island’s indoor/outdoor bar. Our drink list includes great local brews on tap as well as a wide selection of favorites, plus curated wine on tap from around the world. We also host local musicians every weekend for live music.

The Sanctuary

The Sanctuary is essentially your marina on the river. It is the perfect place to escape the worries of the world. We currently offer 22 covered boat slips that are available for monthly rent.

The Mike Barr Education & Learning Center

The Mike Barr Education & Learning Center is the perfect corporate meeting space near Orlando for your group. Also known as our Classroom, it has been used for retreats, board meetings, team building events, homeschool outings, holiday parties, retirement parties and even weddings and bridal showers. The Classroom is a LEED Platinum building, meaning it is the highest level of “green” and incorporates many sustainable features.

Boardwalk

Relax in wooden Adirondack chairs and soak in the peace of the beautiful Wekiva River. The Boardwalk, which runs from The Sanctuary to the boat launch area, is one of the most popular spots among our guests at Wekiva Island. Grab a few chairs and stake out the perfect place for your group for the day or to wind down with a glass of wine or beer. Then, just sit back, enjoy the Florida sun and relax.

White Sand

Volleyball

Volleyball is a favorite group activity at the Island. Our regulation-size sand volleyball court is located behind our main building and is available for groups to reserve. We have bleachers for friends or bystanders to cheer on their team – whether you’re playing competitively or for just your own recreation. Time may be limited or matches may rotate to accommodate other guest reservations.

Fire Pit

Our riverfront fire pit is a prime location for cooler months in Florida. It is a favorite place to gather, relax and enjoy the company of others. Grab a drink from the bar or a bite from Without a Paddle Café and cozy up for the perfect night!

Restrooms

Wekiva Island offers clean, indoor restrooms for guest use. These restrooms are renovated to match our efforts of energy efficiency and water conservation. They feature low flow and dual flush water closets and waterless urinals. The bathrooms are regularly maintained to help maximize your experience on the river.

Jump In

Swimming

What better way to cool off than to jump in the river? Wekiva River remains a constant 72 degrees all year round, and guests are welcome to enjoy swimming along the boardwalk area or in other designated swimming locations along the river. Outside floats are welcome. Large floats will be charged a small fee. Please note: There are no lifeguards on duty, and no diving is permitted from anywhere along the boardwalk. This is a natural Florida River & wildlife is present.

Cast Away

Fishing

The Wekiva River is well known for its fishing and is filled with a variety of fish. Fishing is not allowed from our shores as there is too much human activity. However, guests are encouraged to bring their own bait and tackle and the cast from boats, canoes, kayaks or paddleboards.
