Earth Day is coming up on April 22. This year’s theme is Our Power, Our Planet, focusing on renewable energy (which you know we love at Wekiva Island!) While we treat every day like Earth Day here, we’re going BIG on Friday, April 25, all day long. This Earth Day Celebration has become a tradition for us at the Island, and this year we’ve got some programming we’re really excited to share with you. If you’re looking for Earth Day activities in Central Florida, keep reading to see what we have in store.
Sustainable shopping at the Riverside Market
Friendly neighbors. Sustainable goods. A stunning riverside backdrop. There’s no better place to celebrate Earth Day 2025 in Orlando than at Wekiva Island’s Pop-Up for the Planet Riverside Market. This eco-friendly market will feature local vendors rooted in sustainability, offering fresh produce, handmade goods, and more. Join us under the Solar Array and shop from 4 to 8 p.m. The Good Fills Van will also be there, giving you a chance to fill up on package-free bulk soaps, detergents, and cleaners. And don’t forget to bring your old fashions to swap and refresh your wardrobe! From 5 to 7 p.m., we’ll be hosting a clothing swap in collaboration with Alyssa Bolanos of Oh Eco.
Free family Earth Day events near Orlando
Looking for something to do to get the kids interested in Earth Day? Wekiva Island’s Earth Day Celebration is designed with the whole family in mind! There are several family Earth Day events on the schedule. Come down from 1 to 3 p.m. to meet birds of prey up close and learn with the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey. Then, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., meet exciting animals from the Central Florida Zoo. Stick around from 5 to 6 p.m., when our team will be leading a hands-on DIY kite activity to explore the amazing power of wind energy. RSVP here.
Creative events for Earth Day
We’re celebrating Earth Day in every way, and that includes with the arts. Stop by Gallery CERO from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to take in breathtaking plein air works by local artists created during the Wekiva Paint Out. At 7:30 p.m., Davey Schweitzer will be bringing musical talents to the Tooting Otter with an amazing Sounds of Wekiva performance.
Grab a drink from the bar and get ready to kick back to soak in the inspiration from the day while you enjoy the company of your favorite people. You can even do it in a sustainable way in honor of Earth Day. We’re bringing back our cup program to embrace sustainability with your favorite beverage. Purchase one of our commemorative cups, and you can enjoy specials all the time. Whenever you use your cup and keep plastic out of the landfill, we’ll give you an additional 4 oz pour. Plus, keep an eye out for specials throughout the year like first tastes of kegs or discounts on vessels. We’ll raise a glass to that!
Central Florida Earth Day river clean-up
Ready to actually get those hands dirty? Grab your crew and a canoe for an Earth Day river clean-up with Keep Seminole Beautiful. Volunteers will be on the Wekiva River with complimentary canoes and clean-up nets from 9:30 a.m. to noon. This work to protect and preserve our local waterways is vital! While you’re out there, consider joining the Wekiva Wild and Scenic River System in the 2025 City Nature Challenge. When you see an example of the amazing biodiversity of the river, make an observation on the iNaturalist app. Back at the Island, let our staff know, and you’ll get a free sticker!
Education events for Earth Day
At Wekiva Island, we aim for guests to leave inspired to protect the environment while they have fun. Earth Day is the same! No matter how guests celebrate Earth Day with us, we hope they’ll take away the message of the event. They’ll have two great opportunities to go deeper, too. First, we’re thrilled to partner with our friends at Florida Springs Council for Eco Trivia Night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Get your winning team together, donate $5 per ticket, and put your knowledge to the test! At 7 p.m., stick around for our Eco Talks panel on the Earth Day theme: Our Power, Our Planet. Local community leaders will share their insights in this inspiring community discussion. RSVP here.
