At Wekiva Island, we always look at the Wekiva Paint Out as the kick off to our season. It’s been a tradition for nearly two decades for us, and it’s one of our favorite events of the year.
Why? Because Paint Out combines all three of the pillars that drive us at Wekiva Island—Art, Education, and Sustainability. It’s a time when we can gather with friends new and old to share and educate about the amazing Wekiva River through art—and inspire people to protect it.
With the event officially underway February 26 to March 2, 2024, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the things we’re most excited about for this year’s event.
- New faces
We are always on the lookout for new talent to bring to our Paint Out tent. The Wekiva Paint Out is a popular event, and when new artists apply, they are carefully vetted so we can offer new viewpoints and added energy to our gallery walls. This year, we have some new faces joining us, including watercolor and oil painter Susan Lynn and art educator and landscape painter Kimberly Daniel. We also are proud to share the work of some artists who have won our Quick Draw competition in the past, including Doug Johnson. - Returning friends
One thing that’s special about the Wekiva Paint Out 2024 as an Orlando art event is that we have some artists return year after year. They have become less participants and more friends for us. Mikel Wintermantel, for instance, is our owner, Bill Weinaug’s, childhood friend. We’re so lucky he brings his incredible skills down to Florida year after year. We also have several familiar faces on the gallery walls this year, from Michelle Held and Scott Hiestand to Orlando artists Tom Sadler and Peter Pettegrew. And of course, there’s our cover artist, the very talented Barbara Ortiz. - Our awesome events
If you’re not an art aficionado—and maybe even if you are!—chances are you have never been to a live art auction. It’s absolutely electric! Not only is it fun to listen to the auctioneer as people get into a bidding war, but you might also leave with a deal on your very own piece of art. You’ll definitely want to mark you calendar for Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. to attend. While you’re at it, mark off Saturday, March 2, too. Our all-inclusive Gala is the perfect way to celebrate the week. Eat, drink, and tour the gallery to see all of the incredible work these artists have produced. - Our online gallery
Trust us, you’re going to want to head to Wekiva Island to really experience what Paint Out is all about. But, for those who can’t, or if you want to see everything that’s going on, we’re excited to share our Virtual Exhibition through our Orlando art gallery, Gallery CERO. Click here to see the work that is being produced! - The chance to do good
The Wekiva Paint Out is an incredible week of art and camaraderie. But the reason we’re all here? To help protect the Wekiva River for generations to come. Proceeds from the event benefit the Wekiva Wilderness Trust and Keep Seminole Beautiful. We’re so thankful to our sponsors, including our presenting sponsor, Nutrl, and to our patrons for their support. And, we’re thankful for you!
We hope you’re excited for this week, too, and we can’t wait to see you at the Wekiva Paint Out 2024.
